About the Role

As a Dimensional Data Modeler at Cognizant, you will lead efforts to design and build dimensional data structures that drive business intelligence, analytics, and data warehousing initiatives. You will collaborate with stakeholders, business analysts, and developers to ensure the delivery of accurate, consistent, and timely data assets that align with organizational objectives.

Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of data modeling and data architecture—from requirement gathering to implementation—ensuring high-quality, scalable solutions tailored for the insurance industry and beyond.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Development of Dimensional Models: Architect and implement dimensional data models optimized for performance and analytics, ensuring they support business reporting and dashboard requirements.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with business users, analysts, and project managers to translate business requirements into technical specifications and data structures.

  • SQL Development: Write and optimize PL/SQL and ANSI SQL queries that facilitate efficient data processing, transformation, and retrieval.

  • Data Quality and Governance: Conduct data validation, profiling, and cleansing processes to ensure data consistency, integrity, and quality across platforms.

  • Performance Monitoring: Evaluate and improve system performance through tuning techniques, ensuring adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs).

  • Documentation and Best Practices: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, dictionaries, and design decisions. Contribute to the organization’s data governance standards.

  • Data Integration: Design ETL strategies for integrating data from multiple sources into a unified, scalable data warehouse environment.

  • Mentorship and Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior developers and cross-functional team members on best practices in dimensional modeling and data handling.

  • Technology Evolution Support: Assist in the transition to newer data platforms and architectures, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.

  • Industry Engagement: Stay updated with emerging trends and tools in data architecture, cloud platforms, and the evolving needs of the insurance sector.


Ideal Candidate Profile

Core Qualifications:

  • Proven hands-on experience in Dimensional Data Modeling, especially within BI and analytics environments.

  • Advanced skills in PL/SQL and ANSI SQL for data query, transformation, and optimization.

  • Familiarity with Data Vault methodologies and how to convert Data Vault to dimensional structures.

  • Proficient in developing Bus Matrices and aligning technical data models with specific business requirements to ensure seamless integration between business goals and data architecture.

  • Expertise in data modeling tools like Erwin or similar platforms.

  • Exposure to iterative and agile data modeling approaches.

  • Sound understanding of the insurance domain, including industry-specific data needs and regulatory considerations.
