As a Multimedia SDE II, your primary mission is to build, customize, and scale multimedia components within FireOS, a specialized operating system based on Android and Linux. You will contribute to the development and integration of high-quality audio and video features, optimizing performance across a range of Amazon Devices.

This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about delivering immersive media experiences and are comfortable working in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. End-to-End Multimedia Ownership

As a customer-centric multimedia engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that Amazon’s devices provide seamless media playback, low-latency audio/video processing, and superior quality-of-service (QoS). You will take ownership of the entire multimedia pipeline, from decoding and rendering to error handling and resource optimization.

2. Design & Development of Media Frameworks

You will be involved in architecting, designing, and building media frameworks on Android and Linux platforms. This includes working with Android Media APIs, ExoPlayer, GStreamer, and Amazon’s proprietary media frameworks. You’ll work collaboratively with application and system-level teams to ensure a consistent and high-performance experience.

3. Prototyping Innovative Media Solutions

Amazon places a strong emphasis on prototyping and experimentation. As part of this role, you will investigate new technologies—such as low-latency streaming, AI-based media enhancements, and edge-processing solutions—to improve existing devices and shape future products.

4. Building Scalable Tools and Services

Beyond core media development, you will create tools, services, and automation frameworks that help streamline development workflows, monitor performance, and ensure robust media functionality across devices.
