This role combines tax expertise with modern technology, data governance, and automation to drive compliance and reporting efficiency across Microsoft’s global tax platform. As a Tax Manager in Hyderabad, you will work in a hybrid model and collaborate with global finance, tax, and engineering teams to ensure best-in-class indirect tax operations.
About the Department – TCPT Indirect Tax
The Tax & Customs Process and Technology Team (TCPT) is a global function that partners with stakeholders across Microsoft to manage risk, enhance controls, and optimize tax determination, compliance, and reporting.
The Indirect Tax division within TCPT focuses on maintaining and evolving Microsoft’s indirect tax capabilities through data-driven technology, automation, and compliance-focused governance.
Role Summary
As a Tax Manager, you will design and implement global indirect tax processes, support the maintenance and advancement of Microsoft’s tax engines like Vertex, and help deliver innovative data and AI-driven solutions using platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, CoPilot Studio, and Power BI.
You’ll be part of an evolving team that applies cutting-edge technologies to reduce compliance risk and enhance reporting accuracy across a globally distributed tax ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
⚙ Process & Platform Development

Assist in the design, enhancement, and implementation of global indirect tax processes, including tax determination, reporting, and compliance.

Support the ongoing operation and development of Microsoft’s global tax engine (e.g., Vertex).

Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and build end-to-end tax solutions, from planning through to audit support.
📊 Data-Driven Tax Compliance

Gather and manage large datasets for indirect tax filing, validation, and audit support.

Use tools like Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure to develop dashboards and visualizations that highlight tax risk and performance.

Prototype solutions leveraging AI and machine learning to streamline operational tax processes.
🤝 Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

Act as a liaison between the tax function and key internal/external stakeholders to ensure that tax compliance and go-to-market requirements are met.

Participate in cross-functional project teams to deliver enterprise-grade financial and tax system improvements.

Drive documentation, user training, and ongoing support for tax-related technology tools.
🔍 Monitoring & Governance

Continuously assess the performance of indirect tax tools and processes, recommending areas for automation, governance improvement, and scalability.

Contribute to the overall data governance strategy to ensure clean, reliable financial data feeds into the tax function.

Provide support during monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate compliance deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or Data Science
AND 2+ years of post-graduate work in tax technology, data management, or indirect tax functions
OR
Master’s degree in a related discipline
OR
Equivalent practical experience in a tax or finance-focused role
Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience with Indirect Tax engine software such as Vertex or OneSource

Experience with Power BI, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric Suite, or similar visualization tools

Familiarity with data modeling and transformation techniques across large financial datasets

Exposure to AI-driven platforms like CoPilot Studio, Azure AI, or similar machine learning tools

Demonstrated success in process design, continuous process improvement, or project management using Agile methodologies

Proven track record of cross-group collaboration, stakeholder communication, and working within matrixed organizations

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, global environment with minimal supervision

Strong organization, documentation, and self-motivation capabilities
