Are you an experienced networking professional with a strong background in complex infrastructure design, routing, and security technologies? Cognizant invites applications for the Network Engineer role within our high-performing Asia Regional Network team, based in Malaysia. This full-time role provides an opportunity to contribute to the design, implementation, and operational support of mission-critical network solutions in a converged environment that spans IP Voice, IP Data, WAN, MPLS, wireless, VPNs, and network security components.
Job Overview
As a Network Engineer at Cognizant, you will play a pivotal role in network architecture planning, project deployment, and Level 3 operational support. You’ll work closely with peers across the Asia region to craft resilient and high-performance solutions tailored for financial institutions and enterprise clients. From structured cabling and firewall deployment to routing, switching, and wireless configuration, you’ll be involved in every stage of the network lifecycle.
This position calls for deep expertise in Cisco technologies, firewalls, VPNs, and network load balancers, along with the ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and document network operations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, size, and implement complete network solutions including LAN/WAN infrastructure, routing protocols, and security measures.
- Lead Level 3 escalation support, resolving complex network incidents and performance issues.
- Collaborate across the Asia regional network team to ensure network reliability, scalability, and compliance with enterprise standards.
- Develop and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs) for new deployments, incorporating components such as MPLS, WAN, structured cabling, and wireless systems.
- Provide operational support for core infrastructure including IP Voice, IP Data, Firewalls, VPN, and wireless networks.
- Ensure adherence to security policies and implementation of protocols such as TACACS+, RADIUS, and 802.1x.
- Perform in-depth analysis and troubleshooting of network traffic using tools like Wireshark, Netflow, and SNMP-based monitoring.
- Create and manage comprehensive documentation for network performance, including precise diagrams and standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for support and troubleshooting.
Required Technical Expertise
Cisco Routing & Switching:
- Hands-on experience in configuring and managing Cisco LAN/WAN devices.
- Proficiency with routers and switches from Cisco Catalyst (3k, 4k, 6k, 9k) and Nexus (7k, 9k) series.
- Solid command of routing and switching protocols: EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, STP, HSRP, VRRP, QoS, Netflow, and others.
Firewall Technologies:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Palo Alto Firewalls.
- Extensive expertise in Cisco ASA Firewall platforms.
Wireless & VPN:
- Experience configuring and maintaining Cisco Wireless Networks (minimum 5 years).
- Extensive hands-on experience with VPN solutions such as Cisco AnyConnect, F5 VPN, and Site-to-Site VPNs integrated with multi-factor authentication for secure remote access.
Load Balancing & SD-WAN:
- Operational experience with F5 LTM or Citrix NetScaler for load balancing.
- Working knowledge of SD-WAN, MPLS, and Internet multi-homing.
Security & Monitoring Tools:
- Familiar with authentication systems like Cisco ISE, TACACS, and RADIUS.
- Working knowledge of Software Defined Networking (Cisco ACI, Cisco DNA).
- Extensive experience deploying and managing WAN optimization technologies, including solutions such as Riverbed Steelhead and Cisco WAE, to improve application performance across wide area networks.
- Deploy, manage, and maintain tools like SolarWinds, Cacti, NetBox, and Syslog servers.
Scripting & Automation:
- Practical expertise in Red Hat Linux command line.
- Scripting abilities in Shell, PERL, or Python for network automation and backups.
Cloud Networking (Advantageous):
- Experience working in private or public cloud networking environments is a plus.
Qualifications & Additional Skills
- Strong understanding of application-layer protocols such as HTTP, DNS, SMTP, and DHCP.
- Working knowledge of ITIL methodologies, enabling structured and efficient delivery of IT services and support processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to document and share procedures.
- Proven ability to manage large-scale deployments and collaborate across global teams.
