Role Purpose

The Lead Administrator – L1 is a senior operational role, responsible for architecture planning, system installations, integration, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and daily infrastructure management within their assigned platform tower—whether database, middleware, backup, or Windows Server environments.

In this role, you’ll be a technical mentor, strategic architect, and owner of operational excellence. Your mandate is to enable continuous service availability and foster a high-performing admin team aligned to business goals.


Key Responsibilities

1. Architecture Planning, Migration & Installation

  • Support architecture of new deployment towers from design through installation, including platforms, middleware, databases, and backup solutions.

  • Produce detailed architectural designs that deliver scalable, extensible, high-performance systems.

  • Recommend and leverage new features or upgrades in Windows Server, virtualization, or backup environments to enhance functionality and optimize resource utilization.

2. Infrastructure Operations Management

  • Oversee daily operations for assigned towers, ensuring uptime, performance, and SLA delivery.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive and corrective measures.

  • Schedule and manage system upgrades, migrations, patches, configurations, and server provisioning activities.

  • Proactively monitor performance, identify enhancements, and apply tuning recommendations to maintain system stability.

3. Disaster Recovery & Backup Strategies

  • Create comprehensive disaster recovery (DR) plans and backup strategies tailored to mission-critical platforms.

  • Ensure consistent backup/recovery operations and regularly validate integrity through periodic drills.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain high-quality documentation: SOPs, runbooks, shift rosters, DR plans, oversight manuals, daily health-check plans, incident logs, and architecture guidance.

  • Deliver weekly status reports to leadership and clients on system activities, upgrades, incidents, and next steps.

  • Champion technical discipline by ensuring all system changes follow formal change control processes to avoid unauthorized modifications.

5. Service Improvement & Automation Initiatives

  • Identify and execute Service Improvement Plans (SIP) using scripting, monitoring tools, and advanced platform features to improve efficiency.

  • Implement automation frameworks for server provisioning, patching, backup monitoring, and routine operations to reduce manual reliance.

  • Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams on shared tools and frameworks to enable future automation across environments.


Team Leadership & Talent Management

Resourcing & Hiring

  • Forecast resource needs—evaluate project workload and future capacity to propose team expansion.

  • Participate in hiring discussions and ensure quality recruitment aligned with technical and culture fit.

Onboarding & Learning

  • Enhance onboarding processes to ensure consistent technical and procedural readiness of new team members.

  • Create knowledge-sharing sessions, architecture showcases, and hands-on training to upskill talent internally.

Performance & Career Growth

  • Set clear performance goals tied to operational metrics, SLAs, and service excellence.

  • Conduct periodic performance reviews with 360-degree feedback and promote internal development paths through programs like Performance Nxt.

  • Recognize high-potential (HiPo) individuals and align with career aspirations within Wipro.

Technical & Functional Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in monitoring tools (Nagios, SolarWinds), patch management, and Windows best practices.

  • Prior experience with disaster recovery systems, test DR failsafes, and automated backup mechanisms.


Educational Background & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related domain.

  • 5–8 years of professional experience in Windows Server administration or infrastructure operations.

  • Leadership experience in managing teams, infrastructure projects, and tool implementation.
